RETURN TO WASTE MANAGEMENT

Walk the Walk and Talk the Talk

The fitness craze of the 70’s and 80’s has seen a rebirth and a transformation.  While more people are starting to jog, there is another larger movement afoot.  Walking is now acceptable, whereas in the 70’s only your grandparents would ever admit to walking.  Once again, our grandparents show us that they are truly wiser than us.

More people walk than in any other fitness activity across the nation.  The National Sporting Goods Association counts some 14 million people who use walking as their primary mode of exercise, hitting stride at least 100 times a year.  That is nearly double the number of runners.

The number one concern amongst people 40 years
and older is their health.

All you need to do is schedule an appointment with yourself for 30 minutes a day, and leave the 1410 minutes for everyone else.  Once you do this, you will find that you will schedule longer appointments with yourself or with a friend.  So get out your day planner and make an appointment with yourself.

You deserve it!

With that many walkers, it’s not surprising that the manufactures of sporting equipment have developed lines of clothing, shoes etc. specifically made for walkers.

It is now cool to walk for exercise.  Two thirds of walkers are women with a median age of 46.  Men who walk have a median age of 54.  More and more younger people are getting involved, as we see walking races surfacing across the country.  Many have been motivated to walk when walking for their favourite charity.

The walkers, like runners, are now able to be apart of the celebration of fitness and camaraderie.

So when someone asks you if you are going for a jog, don’t hang you head, but stand up tall and say you are going for a walk.  Oh, be sure to ask them if they are enjoying their hamburger and fries.
